So like I was saying, the drivers of Kuwait are crazy. We were told in our safety briefings before traveling on the roads that the main highway running North/South the length of the country is one of the deadliest stretches of road in the world. A wrecked car such as this was not an uncommon site. We drove this stretch just about every day and one morning there it was. It was gone by the next day. Closer into town there wrecked cars along the freeway that stayed there the whole time we were in the country. We would see them daily and they just stayed there on the side of the road as a reminder as to how dangerous the driving is. But those wreckages sure didn’t deter or frighten those who wanted to drive crazy.
Other sites of interest while driving around Kuwait are camels. Here are a few we encountered.
Finally, on the topic of road trips I want to show off the vehicle being used to patrol and transport troops currently in Iraq and Afghanistan. The MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle. These big guys have been phasing out the up-armored HMMWV (Hummer). There were a lot of them on the desolate roads of Kuwait so the soldiers can get lots of training and experience on the vehicles before moving on to serve in those conflict countries. This first one is equip with a mine rollers in order to detonate any pressure activated explosives.
